Medea

The Hub

Wed 10 Aug - Sunday 28 Aug 2022 | Edinburgh International Festival

Overview

She's chucked out like an auld coat that nae langer fits him…

A tale of horror, of the breaking of the ultimate taboo – of the snuffing out of the future – Medea is the classic drama of the eternal battle of the sexes.
Of hold-your-breath heartbreak and revenge.

Refugees in Corinth, Medea and Jason, clinging together, have struggled to bring up their beloved offspring in this alien and unsympathetic society.
Now Jason has a plan to better integrate himself.
Unfortunately, this involves abandoning his wife, the mother of his children…
Spurned, destitute, desperate, Medea exacts her terrible retribution.

Michael Boyd directs a brilliant, visceral ensemble in a production of Liz Lochhead’s award-winning adaptation with the wonderful Adura Onashile in the role of Medea.

Medea will be presented as part of the 2022 Edinburgh International Festival.

Written by Liz Lochhead, after Euripides. Directed by Michael Boyd.

A National Theatre of Scotland production.
