Story

The Great North Run is the largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in North East England each September. Participants run between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields.

Carer Support South Lakes is an independent, local charity and network partner of Carers Trust. We provide a range of services to support and enhance the lives of unpaid carers of all ages throughout South Lakeland.

There are thousands of Carers in South Lakeland. Many juggle work, school, or other commitments along with their caring role, and most don't think of themselves as Carers, nor do they realise the range of services available to help them, such as access to information, emotional support, advocacy, financial support and opportunities to take a break. Taking on a caring role can lead to feelings of isolation, frustration, depression and can result in ill health.

The Coronavirus pandemic has had a massive impact on the lives and wellbeing of unpaid carers within South Lakes, increasing isolation and negatively affecting peoples health and wellbeing.

The Great North Run is an annual event that Carer Support South Lakes participates in where five volunteers raise money for unpaid Carers as well as achieving personal goals.

This years participants are Tim Farron MP, Martin Saunders (one of our Trustees), Michael Crowe, Alison Magee-Barker (back for more) and Phil Jones

The money raised will go towards 1-1 support, sitting service, wellbeing, support groups and counselling.

Your generosity is very gratefully appreciated - thank you so much!
