Hereditary Disease Committee

Goal

The Hereditary Disease Committee (HDC) works to help our members promote the healthy breeding of dogs and cats and control the increase in hereditary diseases and genetic predispositions in dogs and cats.

Objectives

  • Facilitate the diagnosis, treatment and control of hereditary diseases and genetic predispositions in dogs and cats to improve the health of animals alive today – and that of future generations.

  • Provide clinical information and other educational resources to support veterinarians in promoting healthy breeding.

History

The HDC was originally formed to curate resources on hereditary diseases and genetic predispositions. It now provides a range of educational resources for veterinary teams to help them promote healthy breeding and to care for animals with hereditary diseases or genetic predispositions.
