Nutrition Committee

Goal

The Nutrition Committee works to help our members understand the important role of nutrition in companion animal health by providing an expert source of accurate nutritional information and advice, both for them and their clients.

Objectives

  • Advocate for nutrition as a key component in all veterinary curricula.

  • Promote the importance of performing a nutritional assessment on every animal at every visit to the vet clinic and of making specific nutritional recommendations for each patient as an integral component of patient care.

  • Advance the central role of the veterinary team as the expert source of information on optimal pet nutrition.

  • Provide expert, evidence-based companion animal nutritional information and education, including global guidelines, to support veterinary teams and pet owners.

History

The GNC was one of the first WSAVA committees to be created and, in 2011, published a detailed set of Global Nutrition Guidelines to help veterinary teams around the world to ensure that dogs and cats receive nutrition, which is tailored to their individual needs.

In 2012, the GNC launched its Global Nutrition Toolkit. This offers a suite of resources to assist veterinary teams to educate pet owners as to the importance of each pet receiving an individual nutritional assessment and recommendation

The GNC does not endorse, approve, recommend or support specific products or companies.
