Welfare cases involving large groups of horses are sadly on the rise. We aim to address the root causes and work with owners where possible but this is not always successful. To rescue, rehabilitate and rehome large groups of horses requires significant resources.

    Situation

Situations involving large numbers of often unhandled horses requiring rescue from a single site are increasing, and demand expansive facilities and a great deal of expertise to tackle appropriately. We seek to work with owners to resolve problems where we can, but if this isn’t possible and the horses are suffering we will act to prevent the situation deteriorating and step in to rescue the animals, aiming to rehabilitate and eventually rehome them.

    Solution

Our expert Field Officers, having had specialist training to deal with difficult situations, will offer owners help and advice to prevent cases from escalating out of control wherever possible. Knowing these cases are increasing, we have invested in specialist equipment such as moveable panels to help us rescue large groups of unhandled horses safely and efficiently when necessary. We rehabilitate and rehome our horses, to make space for others in need to come into our care.
