Gordon is a Burma Star Veteran. He left the army with the rank of Captain. He probably would have made a Major, but he took his commanding officers girlfriend on a date. The colonel found out and demoted him. He has been a director of J.Pickard & Co Ltd at Burrington for all his working life. Throughout his life he has always had a passion for Bowling. He has been the President of the Devon Bowling Association and has played all over the world. His family have challenged him to play 5 ends at 20 Clubs across Devon, this will mean he plays 100 ends (his age).

He has taken up the Challenge and is playing his first match at the Hoe in Plymouth on 20th July 21. This is where Sir Francis Drake was playing when the Spanish Armada were spotted. He refused to interrupt  his game, let’s hope nothing interrupts Gordon’s game. The Friday before the start of the Challenge Gordon was at his Bowling Club in South Molton, about to have a practice, when he fell and fractured his hip. he was taken to hospital and on the Saturday had an Operation where his hip was pinned. Gordon is now back home and is exercising and fully intends to start his challenge as soon as possible.

Gordon said "I survived the war, and I don't intend a little thing like a broken hip to stop me now" , he apologizes to everyone who he has inconvenienced by delaying the Challenge

Gordon is now over half way through his challenge. he will now finish at Plymouth on the 2nd September playing the Hoe at 11am and Sir Francise Drake at 2 pm. Hopefully he will be walking to the green to play. Even if his actual challenge is done from a wheel chair.
