Teacher Programs & Workshops

VMFA teacher programming provides innovative ideas for interdisciplinary learning. All VMFA workshops are aligned with Virginia’s Standards of Learning and model strategies for including works of art in all K-12 curricula.

Year-round In-Person Learning

Teacher Tuesdays at Two Visit VMFA throughout the summer for education-centered conversations in the galleries led by VMFA Education faculty. Offered on select Tuesdays in June, July, and August to currently practicing educators, free of charge. Register now!

Teacher Tuesdays are offered in partnership with our neighbors at Virginia Museum of History and Culture, where participants may show their school ID to enjoy free admission after 3 pm!

Teacher Programs Learn at VMFA during the school year by attending educator programs and workshops. Designed with educational best practices at the forefront, our standards-based programming utilizes VMFA’s robust collection as a catalyst to enhance K-12 curriculum across disciplines.

Registration for Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 programming will open in June 2024.

Online Resources for Educators

Creative & Critical Thinking with Art Course Developed by VMFA and hosted on Virtual Virginia, this course uses VMFA collections to empower creative and critical thinking across different content areas. Participants will explore how inquiry-based engagement with art objects might serve as a laboratory for honing the creative and critical thinking skills crucial to the discipline they teach.
