Communities and local areas

We target our work in the communities that need help most, working with local partners to deliver place-based solutions.

Every community faces different challenges and has different assets and partners, so we need local solutions. Significant government investment and a national educational policy have not achieved results in the most deprived areas.

We believe that by taking coordinated action at a local level to drive up literacy levels, we can support increased educational attainment and employability skills, and improve health outcomes and social capital.

National Literacy Trust Hubs and regional campaigns work in communities to achieve these aims.

National Literacy Trust Hubs

National Literacy Trust Hubs bring together local partners to tackle literacy issues in communities across the UK where low levels of literacy are seriously impacting on people’s lives.

We work with local businesses, health, education and cultural organisations to help raise literacy levels in our Hub areas. Our approach is different in each place we work because every community has different needs and this is the best way to create long-lasting change.

Each Hub has a public-facing campaign brand.
