Vision
To drive forward the use of seaweed derived nanomaterial products as both sustainable and superior alternatives to fossil fuel derived synthetics in use today. Mercel’s platform technology offers a plastic free fully bio-degradable alternative to the petro-chemical/plastic ingredients and coatings used in many household and consumer goods. This allows brands to be more sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint. The technology uses a current waste product from global seaweed processing to add significant value to primary processing with increasing profitability for seaweed farmers.
We don’t believe sustainability requires a compromise in material properties. The aim is to make our sustainable products simply the best choice rather than the green option.

What do we do?
Mercel ‘s patented zero waste low energy process makes a platform nanomaterial product which can be used as a plastic free ingredient in composites and formulations or for barrier coatings. Surface modification of the material through patented green chemistry adds further functionality for applications in healthcare, diagnostics and drug delivery.
