We are excited to announce the results of our collaboration with SPT Labtech to demonstrate automation of RevoluGen’s Fire Monkey™ High Molecular Weight (HMW) DNA extraction chemistry in a bead-based format using SPT Labtech’s firefly® automated liquid handling platform. Representing a meaningful advance in sample preparation efficiency for long-read (and hybrid) DNA sequencing, the automated protocol enables the processing of up to 96 samples in parallel to prepare HMW DNA suitable for library preparation for sequencing in under two hours. Terrific piece in Nature about why speed matters when you are using genomics to answer health questions “But perhaps the greatest excitement centres on ‘long-read’ technologies, particularly those developed by UK firm Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT). Long reads are valuable for documenting gene duplications, deletions and other structural changes that are challenging to capture with short-read methods.
