MSU Michigan Scholars Program

Michigan State University is partnering with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation on a program to foster hiring in the electric vehicle, mobility and semiconductor industries. The goal of the program is to connect engineering students interested with companies looking for talent.

THE COHORT PROGRAM

  • Student accepted in the cohort program will be involved in Career Prep directed at the EV Industry PLUS special programming, coursework and tours.

  • Students will be assigned both a Career Coach and Faculty Advisor who will help with career prep, employer contact and academic advising as it pertains to the EV Industry. 

  • Students will have special engagement events where they will be connected with and recruited by companies in the EV Industry in hopes of employment  - Note: it will be the choice of the student to accept. 

  • There is NO extra cost or payment for the coursework and programming involved in this program. All is covered by program funding.

  • Successful Michigan Scholars will qualify for up to $10,000* in scholarship.  The addition of this scholarship may result in adjustments made to previously awarded financial aid. All scholarships are contingent on continued qualifying and funding.

STUDENT ELIGIBILTY

  • Qualifying students must be in Freshmen (2nd semester), Sophomore or Junior Status (@ least 2 semesters prior to graduation).

  • Student should be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5 or above

  • Preference given to students majoring in Computer Science, Computational Data Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering 

  • Student is interested in both the EV Industry and working in the State of Michigan.

  • Special program eligibility for graduating seniors - see program administrator

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

  • ​Students must complete the Cohort Career Prep Program (or have it waived by Program Administrator)

  • Students must participate in approx. 2/3 of the select programming, seminars and special events planned to support their goal of careers in the EV Industry. 

  • Upon acceptance of co-op/intern position, student must enroll in EGR X (special EV Section), for each and every work experience prior to graduation. 

  • Students must complete minimum 10 week experience and receive a “P” = Passing grade for their Experience (EGR 391-EGR 494)

Students interested in participating in the program are required to attend an information session. Once a student attends the information session they will receive a link to apply. ​

Learn how engineering students can gain academic credit for there engineering work experiences. The presentation will include an in-depth review of the EGR X course series, as well as, informing students of academic waiver options in addition to earning credit.
