KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno supreme council has rejected former Pasir Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s appeal against his six-year suspension.

Umno information chief Isham Jalil said this was decided after the supreme council meeting but did not reveal more details to the press on Thursday (Jan 5).

In October last year, the Umno supreme council confirmed that Tajuddin had been suspended for six years.

Tajuddin was also dropped as Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia in July.

After he was dropped from the Umno supreme council, Tajuddin held a press conference to accuse Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi of leading the party’s MPs to support PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s bid to be prime minister in 2020.

On Sept 23, Tajuddin confirmed his candidacy for the Pasir Salak parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election, pre-empting the official endorsement of party president Ahmad Zahid. Tajuddin insisted he had the undivided support of the Pasir Salak Umno division.

Tajuddin had been the Pasir Salak MP for three-terms.

Isham also said that the Arau division will be suspended following the sacking of its former chief Tan Sri Shahidan Kassim last month.

He added the party will appoint a new Arau division administrator chief.

“We will appoint one as soon as possible,” he said.

When asked if the Umno supreme council discussed whether to invite Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or other government parties to the Umno general assembly next week, he said the meeting did not discuss the matter.

Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, in a twitter post, said the supreme council had finalised the details of the agenda for the party’s general assembly from Jan 11 to 14.
